Change to the Project or Budget

After an award is made, changes may be needed, including an extension of project period, reallocation of funds among budget categories, or even a new principal investigator. 

A change to the scope of work always requires approval of the Sponsor. 

Other changes sometimes require Sponsor approval, and usually require internal approval at UMB.    Review the Sponsor guidelines and/or award document, check the links on this page, or call your contact in ORD for guidance.  Changes to the project or budget are to be initiated by the Principal Investigator, may require additional internal approvals, and are signed by an ORD official to indicate internal approval for processing or as the authorized institutional official on a request to the Sponsor.  

The budget modification request form, carryover allocation form (request for carryover of unobligated balance), and no-cost extension request form (request for extension without additional funds) should be used for internal approval of these actions.
