The Grants and Contracts section of Office of Research and Development is divided in five teams that handle grants and contracts according to school, department, or division.  In addition, the Subcontract Team manages outgoing subcontracts that are issued under UMB awards.  Each team has an e-mail distribution address, provided below.  For routine matters, please use the team e-mail.  For those times when you need to speak to someone on the phone immediately, contact the head of the team for help and guidance.  In general, work is distributed as follows:

Proposal receipt and approval:  Proposals will be distributed to the administrators within each team based on complexity.  The individual who receives the proposal will e-mail the Principal Investigator and the unit administrator informing them of the assignment.  Please allow at least 24 hours for proposal distribution, unless the proposal is due that day. 

Negotiation of award terms and conditions:  All award documents that must be negotiated, signed by Office of Research and Development and returned to the sponsor will be handled by either the Manager of the team or assigned to an administrator on the team with the appropriate level of training and expertise.  The individual who is assigned to handle the award document will notify the Principal Investigator and the unit administrator as to the assignment and/or status of negotiating and signature.

Award set-up:  All staff will work on awards from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM every day.  We have reserved this time to focus solely on award processing.  Therefore, during this time each day, please contact Grants & Contracts team members using the team e-mail address or call the main Office of Research and Development line, 6-6723.

When contacting Office of Research and Development about grants and contracts issues related to a specific application, award or agreement, please provide Office of Research and Development with the following information: Principal Investigator's name, unit (school, department, division, institute, center or program), sponsor, and other information that will help us to identify the correct file (such as the project title or the sponsor award number).
